Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
GOD'S BLESSING (Romans 12:9-17)
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

“Betrayal: Prediction, Signal & Instruction”
Paraphrase
Jesus lets his disciples know he’s not referring to all of them when he says one of them is going to betray him in fulfillment of a prophecy in the Psalms that says, “He who shared my bread has turned against me.” However, he tells them when this prophecy is fulfilled not only will they believe who he is but anyone who accepts their testimony about him will believe who he is and that his Father sent him.
Staring at one another and not knowing who he was talking about, Peter told John to ask Jesus directly who among them was going to betray him. Jesus answered John by dipping a piece of bread in a dish and giving it to Judas Iscariot who Satan entered as soon as he took it.
Telling Judas to go quickly to do what he was planning, the other disciples didn’t understand why Jesus said this to him thinking Judas had been asked to go buy something for the festival or to give something to the poor. After taking the bread Judas went out into the night.

“Love, Compassion, Humility & Sacrifice”
Psalm 95:6
Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
GOD'S WORD: John 13:1-17
Paraphrase
At a meal just before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that in coming from God everything had been placed under his power but that now his time had come to return to God and leave the world and those whom he loved. The meal progressed with the devil having already incited Judas to betray Jesus as he stood up, took off his outer clothing, wrapped a towel around his waist, took a basin of water, began washing his disciples’ feet and drying them with the towel.
When Peter asked him if he was going to wash his feet, Jesus told him he didn’t understand what he was doing now but would later on, although Peter protested anyway telling Jesus he should never lower himself to washing his feet. Jesus responded by telling Peter that unless he washed his feet he had no business being with him which led to Peter quickly changing course and asking Jesus to wash his entire body instead. Jesus answered by telling him that since he had bathed his body was clean and only his feet were dirty and in need of cleaning – indicating that not everyone of them had a clean body in the sense of sin knowing that Judas was planning to betray him.
When he was done washing their feet he returned to the table asking them if they understood what he had just happened telling them that they correctly call him Teacher and Lord yet he had lowered himself to serve them by washing their feet as an example for how they are to serve one another. Jesus told them since a servant isn’t greater than his master, nor a messenger greater than the one with the message, He had done this so they would be able to humble themselves as servants knowing it was blessed to do so.

GOD'S WORD: John 12:37-50
Paraphrase
Their continued unbelief in Jesus despite his many miracles fulfilled Isaiah’s prophetic question about who has believed our message and to whom has the lord been revealed?
Seeing Jesus’ glory, Isaiah, also spoke about how their continued lack of belief worked to blind them and make their hearts so cold that eventually it was impossible for them to believe and receive salvation.
Despite the unbelief amongst the people there were Jewish leaders who believed in Jesus although not openly because peer pressure made them fear excommunication from the synagogue if they went public with their belief.
Crying out, Jesus proclaimed that whoever believed in him believed in God his Father who he had come into the world to reveal as Light & Life so those who believed in him would not remain in the darkness & death of their sin.
Jesus said he didn’t judge those who hearing his word still rejected him because he came to save, not judge the world. Instead, he said those who heard his words but rejected him would be judged by the words he had spoken – words of eternal life his Father had commanded him to say – words so important he had said them exactly as his Father had told him to.

THANKSGIVING
“Glory through Sacrifice”
Psalm 95:6

GOD'S WORD: John 12:20-36
Paraphrase
Some Greeks who were in Jerusalem for the Passover came to Philip asking him if they could see Jesus. He told his brother Andrew of their request and together they informed Jesus.
Jesus responded to their request metaphorically by making an analogy between how his time had come to glorify his father through his death and how the time comes for a single kernel of wheat to fall to the ground and die. He told them when a single kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies it produces many seeds that give life to a great harvest in the same way his dying, being buried in the ground and rising to life will bring a great newness of life into the world. Jesus told them that if they put their own life first they will lose it but if they are willing to sacrifice their life for him and to serve him and follow him ahead of even their own life they will receive eternal life as well as honor from the Father. In his distress, he questioned if he should ask the Father to save him from what lies ahead - answering in the same breathe that the very reason he is present at this time is to give glory to God in this way.
Speaking from heaven so the crowd gathered around could hear, the Father spoke saying he had glorified his Son’s name and would do it again. While some present said the sound was merely thunder others said it had been the voice of an angel who had spoken to Jesus.
Jesus said the voice from heaven was a public acknowledgement from God of who he was and what he was going to do to those gathered around including the Greeks who had asked to meet him. Telling them he was going to give glory to his Father through dying by being lifted up from the earth (on a cross through crucifixion as well as from the ground through resurrection) – something that would draw all peoples to him and in the process defeat Satan and bring judgment to the world through belief or unbelief.
The crowd, stating the Law says the Messiah will never die, challenged what Jesus had said by asking how he could be the true Messiah when he was claiming he was going to glorify God by dying.
Jesus answered by telling them they needed to both believe in him and walk with him while he was still present so they would maintain their faith after he was gone and so they won't be overtaken by and become lost in the darkness of Satan. After answering them he disappeared.

GOD'S WORD: John 12:20-36
Paraphrase
Some Greeks who were in Jerusalem for the Passover came to Philip asking him if they could see Jesus. He told his brother Andrew of their request and together they informed Jesus.
Jesus responded to their request metaphorically by making an analogy between how his time had come to glorify his father through his death and how the time comes for a single kernel of wheat to fall to the ground and die. He told them when a single kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies it produces many seeds that give life to a great harvest in the same way his dying, being buried in the ground and rising to life will bring a great newness of life into the world. Jesus told them that if they put their own life first they will lose it but if they are willing to sacrifice their life for him and to serve him and follow him ahead of even their own life they will receive eternal life as well as honor from the Father. In his distress, he questioned if he should ask the Father to save him from what lies ahead - answering in the same breathe that the very reason he is present at this time is to give glory to God in this way.
Speaking from heaven so the crowd gathered around could hear, the Father spoke saying he had glorified his Son’s name and would do it again. While some present said the sound was merely thunder others said it had been the voice of an angel who had spoken to Jesus.
Jesus said the voice from heaven was a public acknowledgement from God of who he was and what he was going to do to those gathered around including the Greeks who had asked to meet him. Telling them he was going to give glory to his Father through dying by being lifted up from the earth (on a cross through crucifixion as well as from the ground through resurrection) – something that would draw all peoples to him and in the process defeat Satan and bring judgment to the world through belief or unbelief.
The crowd, stating the Law says the Messiah will never die, challenged what Jesus had said by asking how he could be the true Messiah when he was claiming he was going to glorify God by dying.
Jesus answered by telling them they needed to both believe in him and walk with him while he was still present so they would maintain their faith after he was gone and so they won't be overtaken by and become lost in the darkness of Satan. After answering them he disappeared.

Paraphrase
The day after Jesus ate at Lazarus' house the great crowd gathered in Jerusalem for the Passover heard he was on his way from Bethany to the city. Taking palm branches they went out of the city to meet him shouting, “Save us now! Blessed is the One who comes in the LORD'S name! Blessed is the King of Israel!”
Fulfilling the prophecy of Zachariah foretelling Israel to no longer fear when they witness the KING of Kings, the Messiah, riding into their city on the back of a lowly donkey, Jesus found a young donkey and sat on its back as he rode into Jerusalem.
Jesus' disciples didn’t comprehend the significance of what he was doing in fulfilling Zachariah’s prophecy concerning the Messiah and other prophecies regarding his need to suffer and die, until after he was resurrected.
Many who had seen Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead continued to tell others resulting in multitudes going out of the city to meet Jesus as he arrived. Paraphrase
Six days before the Passover a dinner was held in Jesus honor in Bethany at the home of Lazarus - the man he raised from the dead. While Martha was serving and Lazarus was reclining at the table, Mary poured expensive perfume on Jesus' feet wiping it off with her hair fragrantly filling the room in the process.
Judas Iscariot who would latter betray Jesus and who was an embezzler of the money entrusted to him to manage for the disciples publically declared Mary’s use of expensive perfume for Jesus as wasteful promoting instead that it could have been used to feed the poor - covering up his real desire to steal it for his own use.
Telling Judas to leave Mary alone - that he didn’t understand the significance of Mary’s sacrifice for him in light of his coming death and burial- he pointed out to Judas that since the poor are always in need Mary’s burial offering as appropriate as it is provides no excuse for neglecting the poor.

“Plot to Kill - Plot to Discredit”

GOD'S WORD: John 11: 45-57
Paraphrase
The religious leaders fearing the magnitude of what Jesus had done in raising Lazarus from the dead considered how all the people coming to faith in Jesus would lead to Rome taking away their position, power and nation.
This led to Caiaphas, the high priest that year, prophesying that it would be better for Jesus to die for the people than for the nation of Israel to perish under the hand of Rome because of all the commotion occurring due to Jesus' miracles.
Not saying this on his own, Caiaphas prophesized that Jesus would die for the entire nation of Israel, including those of Israel who were scattered, to order to unite them. His saying this led to their plotting to take Jesus life from that point on.
Jesus could therefore no longer move at will among the Jews and withdrew to Ephraim near the desert where he and his disciples stayed.
When time came for the Passover and the ceremonial cleansing in Jerusalem they began wondering if Jesus would dare come to the Feast since the religious leaders had given orders to report any sightings of him so they could arrest him.

Paraphrase
Coming to the tomb where Lazarus had been for four days riled up Jesus' anger over death to the point he told them to remove the stone covering the entrance to the tomb.
Martha cautioned Jesus against doing this since her brother’s decomposing body having been in the tomb for four dayS would give off a putrid odor.
Reminding Martha she had been told if she believed he was the resurrection and the life she would see the glory of God, Jesus had the stone removed as he looked up to heaven thanking his Father for always hearing him - thanking Him publically so those present would believe he was the Son of God when they witnessed what was about to happen.
Calling in a loud voice for Lazarus to come out of the tomb, he walked out covered with the burial cloth twisted and turned around his entire face and body prompting Jesus to tell them to remove Lazarus’ burial clothes so he could be set free.
Many of the Jews who had come from Jerusalem to Bethany to mourn with Mary and Martha placed their faith in Jesus upon witnessing this while other Jews responded by telling the Pharisees what had happened. This led to a meeting of the Sanhedrin where the religious leaders expressed fear that as more and more people believed in Jesus they would fall into disfavor with Rome and end up losing their religious status and power.

LORD, we ask that Your Spirit help us to be prepared as Witnesses to tell those who have questions about who Your Son is and What he has done and the difference this makes in the world and our lives.

To participate in the Lord’s Supper you will need a piece of bread & a small cup of juice or wine.
"Heart"
The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:27-28 says, “Therefore, whoever eats and drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.
